Where Vleesbaai got it's name; some history: "The first European to set eyes on the Bay now known as Vleesbaai was Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488. Dias would have come into the Bay, as he discovered the southern shores of the African continent en route to the East, in the process of establishing the spice route" Meat and spices where exchanged thus Vleesbaai "Bay of Meat". There are many walking trails here in the Garden Route, cyclist love coming here. fisherman, surfers and walkers and runners to enjoy the beautiful surroundings in this quiet town. There are no street lights in Vleesbaai and people are friendly and helpful. Driving to the closest Mall will take approximately 25 min. George will be about 40min drive and Cape Town 3 half hours. Albertinia is also a great little town to shop at if you want to avoid crowds, about 30 min drive. There are many Game Lodges in the vicinity as well as wine farms.
